Honduras – the beginning

HERO began with a simple question, “Will you help us?”

Five years ago I was asked to provide medical support to a mission group that has traveled to the mountains of Honduras assisting small villages. I gathered a team of friends and fellow workers and we went. The experience was incredible and addicting.

We provided medical care to several different places often only accessible by foot hiking into the mountains to small remote villages. We also offered education about basic health issues.

On our second trip to Honduras we brought ceramic water fitration systems for individual family use that are still being used today. We returned several times to this poor regiion but I began to envision my own non-profit organization that would travel to remote locations providing support on several different levels. We wanted to help communities become sustainable – self-sufficient. Thus the birth of HERO and an incredible team of dedicated volunteers.
